@julia - palak is beneficial for diabetics in many direct and indirect ways :

    * The magnesium contained in spinach helps to prevent complications that occur following diabetes. Regular consumption of spinach stabilizes your blood sugar and prevents it from fluctuating too much.

*many diabetic patients develop a risk of hypertention as well .Spinach is rich in potassium and low in sodium. The balanced quantities of these minerals are highly beneficial for high blood pressure patients as potassium lowers and sodium raises the blood pressure. Spinach also contains folate which helps to reduce hypertension and relaxes blood vessels, thus maintaining proper blood flow.

*spinach has gud fiber content. hence the G.I being low, it can help in maintaining the blood sugar, and prevent the sudden sugar hikes.

A glass of tomato and carrot juice in the morning, helps in de-stressing, it stimulates the brain to release a hormone responsible for relaxation. people who have high mental stress, specially get benefited with this practice. if not this, atleast raw tomatoes should be consumed as salad.

    @ wendy - hi,

lemon has vit. c , a very important nutrient, with anti oxidative properties. helps in over all well being, it scavenges the toxins and free radicals in our body and flushes them out. these toxins many times come in the way of weight loss. also lemon and water increases ur metabolic rate , leading to gud weight loss. for people who are working out for weight loss, the vit c also helps in increasing the stamina and reducing the stress.. further enhancing the effects of work out.

    @ vik, hi,

yes peanut butter can be eaten during weight loss, but in a very restricted amount. the benefit is tht it gives u satiety (feeling of fullness). it has monounsaturated fats and resveratrol; butter prepared with the skin of the peanuts has a greater level of resveratrol and other health-aiding agents.Peanut butter provide protein, vitamins B3 and E, magnesium, folate, arginine, and high levels of the antioxidant p-coumaric acid. as it is evident that the regular butter lacks in most of these nutrients, peanut butter is better than the regular butter. also the calorie content of 1 tsp peanut butter is around 30 kcal. and tht of regular butter is 45 kcal.

The physiological responses associated with elliptical exercises are nearly identical to treadmill exercises. both exercise machines are effective for increasing the amount of calories burned and for producing cardio respiratory health and training benefits...

One factor to be kept in mind while opting between them is AGE. some recent reserches show tht an elliptical cycle is easy on joints and helps to burn roughly the same amount of calories as treadmills with the impression of putting less effort.so for a person of the age 35+ or for someone soon approching this age should invest in elliptical cycle. But if you are to use them at gym, thn you shld make use of both the machines for total fitness.

treadmills have a facility of incline and different intensity, which can make a work out more interesting... but it mostly concentrates on the lower body, and is excellent for runners and joggers. but elliptical trainers give you a total body workout if you have dual action handlebars for your arms and foot pedals for your legs. hence my vote goes to an elliptical trainer.

    hi manish !!

alcohol intake actually depends upon the epiliptic condition, if the seizures episode is on a regular basis, then avoiding alcohol is the best .. but if the episodes are once in a while, you can take a restricted amount of alcohol. amount varies from person to person. for a person on anti epiliptic drug, the sedative effect of these drugs gets worse, you ll feel drunk sooner,u can feel drowsy, get a bad headache, even slurred speech,. if such person misses his dose of drug on the day he takes alcohol, the chances of getting a seizure increases. hence no matter what the medication must not be missed.

if you are not on a medication, stick to only 1 unit (1 peg / 30 ml ) , that to in 7-10 days .. some people can even tolerate 2 .. but thats not good on the long run, it might increase the epileptic episodes.

hi wendy ... while working out , make sure u work out for atleast 45 min. coz in the first 30 min, the body uses glucose and glycogen as a sourse of energy .. hence for fat loss purpose, its better to exersice for 45 min. 30 min workout will only help you in maintaining weight . and the 10 min easy walk i asked you to do after meal , is for the sole purpose of aiding digestion, increasing BMR, which indirectly leads to weight loss.surprisingly, some people even notice inch loss with this 10 min, after meal walks done 3 times a day !!

hi soumya, if u r on medications, plz remember to take them first thing in the morning, thts the key to keep ur hormones near normal , exercise also stimulates thyroid gland for better secretions of its hormones.. so do tht as many times a week as possible. warm water and lemon also keeps thyroid stimulated. so twice in a day is gud. besides these , you also need to avoid some goitrogenic foods like cabbage, broccoli, spinach, turnips, soyabean. and restrict your salt intake a little, to avoid qater retention. by following these guidelines im sure you ll be able to manage your weight and thyroidism.
