Hey Varun! The increase of pace comes gradually. In a long run, do not start off quick and then slow down later. Run at a comfortable pace from the beginning it self and try to maintain this speed for a long run. Once your body is comfortable with a particular pace for long runs, you can try to increase it gradually (like 5-10% increase) each month.

What kind of exercise you are talking about? I can help you in running/jogging if you want.
On a separate note, make your breakfast 50% of you daily total calorie intake. Make your lunch 30% and your dinner only 20%. Divide your food like that. It will help you a lot in reducing weight. Dinner plays a very important role in weight reduction.

If you want to go for fruit juices, go for Tropicana 100% fruit juices. It doesn;t have preservatives/added sugar.

However, fruit drinks don't give you fibres. You should always prefer eating fruits rather than having fruit juices. Who knows ...may be the fruit juices are made from chemically treated fruits as well ...?

Try buying fruits from some trust-worthy outlets like Namdhari in Bangalore

I have found Having Electrol or Gatorade the best! It gives you instant energy and makes-up for the loss of salts as well. Just water is not sufficient. Eating something fills the stomach and makes it difficult for me to run further.

Take lemon in warm water in the morning and then go for a walk. Warm water + walk will help you in burning fat. Make your dinner light and keep a gap of 2 to 3 hours between dinner and sleep.

Quiting smoking does make you gain weight sometimes.

Here are the reasons for that:
    1. Smoking increases metabolism slightly
    2. Smoking suppresses appetite
    3. After quitting smoking, people also eat more as a replacement activity to smoking.

When you quit smoking, a gain of between 2 - 5 Kg during the first few months of cessation is normal. If your eating habits have remained the same as they were when you smoked, you can easily shed this small gain with a brisk, 30 minute walk daily. You can also avoid alcohol and switch to healthy snacking habits like fruits, vegetables. You should include a lot of water/fluids like green tea etc.

    Hope this helps.....!!!

Ankle sprains are common injuries that runners experience. I have gone through this several time during my early days of running. An ankle sprain is an injury that results from a twisting action, which stretches or tears the ligaments of the ankle joint. (The term sPrain refers to an injury of the ligaments, as opposed to a sTrain, which refers to an injury of the muscle or tendon.) Remember; ligaments attach bone to bone, were as tendons attach muscle to bone.

One of the most common causes is simply a lack of conditioning. If the muscles, tendons and ligaments around the ankle joint have not been trained or conditioned, this can lead to a weakness that may result in an ankle sprain. A lack of warming up and stretching is another major cause of ankle injuries.

Here are some of the things you can do to help prevent an ankle sprain:

    1. Warm Up properly. Do Stretching and Strengthening exercises
    2. A good pair of shoes will help to keep your ankle stable, provide adequate cushioning, and support your foot and lower leg during the running or walking motion.

    Immediate treatment:

    1. Take rest
    2. Put ice on the affected area.

    Hope this helps!!!

My mom is a high blood pressure patient. What are the commonly available alternatives for salt she can have. Doctor has told her to cut the salt intake. She however, is not able to do so as she doesn't find the food tasty without salt.
