Who would like a dull or a patchy skin with dark circles? No one! But who would want to have a glowing skin? Everyone! Who would try to get a glowing complexion with an even skin tone? Very few! This is because, many people forget to take certain measures which are pre-requisites of an effective skin rejuvenation process. Cell turnover is eight times faster at night and so the skin undergoes the maximum amount of repairs while you sleep. This means that you need to take certain steps to allow your skin to revitalize before going to bed. The pre-requisites include:

Ways to Support the Skin's Repair Process
  • Do Proper Cleansing: Before you go to bed, you must clean your face properly with a good face wash or cleansing milk. Cleansing before going to sleep is very important because the skin needs to be freed from dirt so as to allow the night potions to work effectively. Removal of oil, makeup and dirt cleans the pores and tightens them. So your skin remains acne-free. Deep pore cleansing would allow the anti-aging formula to penetrate deeper inside the surface of the skin. Creamy cleansers are ideal for dry skin while a gel formula goes well with oily and acne-prone skins. You should wait for 10 minutes after applying a cleanser if you have sensitive skin. Then you can apply an anti-ager to avoid any reaction.
  • Use a Retinoid: Retinoids are nothing but derivatives of Vitamin A. Most of the anti-aging solutions contain Retinoid. Retinoids are commonly applied at night because their effectiveness can get reduced with an exposure to sunlight. You can start with an OTC cream which contains Retinoid. Apply every alternative night to allow your skin to get habituated to the effects gradually.
  • Remove Dark Circles: Dark circles under the eyes are concerns for many women. An under-eye cream containing retinol and Vitamin K is ideal to erase the dark circles. Vitamin K as well as retinol show sensitivity towards the ultraviolet rays and so under-eye creams should only be applied at night. One added benefit is that the retinol can also ease crow's feet.
  • Apply a Moisturizer: The temperature of the body rises during the night. This implies water loss and calls for extra hydration of the skin. So you should always apply a moisturizer before going to sleep. This would prevent your skin from becoming dry after you wake up in the morning. Ideally, you should buy moisturizers which contain glycerin or hyaluronic acid. These can be categorized as super hydrators because these work by attracting water to the skin. This skin softening process decreases the appearance of the fine lines or wrinkles.
  • Do Everything to Get a Sound Sleep: Since eight hours of sleep is very essential for a healthy skin, so you must do everything that would bring a good night's sleep. Ideally you should sleep on your back and not on your stomach. If you choose to sleep on the same side or on your stomach every night then it would lead to the development of sleep lines into your skin on a permanent basis. If you feel difficult to change your habit, then you can use a satin pillowcase with a silky texture that would prevent creases. You can use a few pillows beneath your head so as to keep your head above your heart. Experts are of the opinion that sleeping in this position would prevent the accumulation of fluids in the face. This would in turn prevent the development of puffy eyes. You should avoid caffeine and alcohol consumptions before going to bed. These are foods which stand in the way of a solid slumber. Before you go to bed, make sure that the room is dark and cool. You should not watch TV or surf the net one hour before going to bed.

Even though your skin has the natural mechanism to conduct repairs on its own, you should prepare the ground to facilitate that mechanism! The measures discussed above would allow the anti-agers and other skin formula to work effectively and to produce the desired results.
