Top 10 Weight Loss Tips
The issue of weight is as big as it's ever been. Throughout the world, there are many people who are struggling with this issue and are at a higher risk for many health problems. Some of these problems are only minor, like the common cold and achy knees and joints. Other health risks that overweight people are more susceptible to are very concerning, such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
The road to weight loss is not an easy one. There will be times when you will simply want to give up. Besides from regular exercises and appropriate food selection, it is also important to have the discipline and dedication to stick to your diet program. Losing weight is a commitment that one must make in all areas of their life and it is likely a commitment that needs to be made over a long term to eliminate possibilities of the weight returning. Understand that a weight loss program is not a linear process. Your body weight may go up or down over a given period of time. Still, you should aim to have more pounds lost than gained. For every pound gained, your goal should be to lose two. In this way, you will progress and be closer to your desired weight. Here are our top 10 tips to get you closer to your desired weight:
-
Increase the non-soluble fiber variety of foods in your diet. Most people think of fruits and vegetables when they think about fiber, but actually it is the fiber in wheat bran (choker) which weight loss specialists talk about when they want to suggest fiber. The fiber in fruits and vegetables, though quite useful, is in much lesser quantity. One can add 1 teaspoon of wheat bran per roti (chapati) or boil 1 teaspoon of wheat bran in milk (skimmed milk) and have it at night.
-
Drink hot water through out the day. One can drink 4 to 6 glasses of hot water through out the day to aid digestion and weight loss. Adding a pinch of fennel (saunf) or elaichi (cardamom) will make it easier to have the hot water and will also help you loose weight quickly.
-
Substitute roti (chapati) with dalia (porridge). Roti is refined wheat and dalia is unrefined wheat, if one eats vegetable dalia instead of roti for one meal, it goes a long way to cut down the weight. One can make vegetable dalia with chopped peas, onions, tomato, cauliflower and beans. It is not only sumptuous to look at but also very delicious.
-
Cut down on milk, curd and paneer as it is very kapha in nature and thereby may be fattening in winters. To increase the calcium intake include a teaspoon of flaxseed and half a teaspoon of black sesame seeds (kala til) in your diet.
-
Take half a teaspoon of amla (Indian gooseberry) powder with water every morning on an empty stomach. Amla is excellent for improving the liver function which is important for metabolism. A weak or sluggish liver is ultimately responsible for fat accumulation.
-
Have raw carrots, tomatoes and radish (mooli). These raw foods also are rich in enzymes which provide the extra metabolizing power to the liver to help in fat breakdown. Cooking these vegetables decrease their nutritive value.
-
Light dinners are the key to weight loss. No other way is so effective as much as light dinners. When we say light dinners, it is basically means no cereals or pulses but only vegetables, soups and salads (especially for women).
-
Maintain a food diary. Food diary is one of the extremely important aspects of weight loss which is frequently neglected.
-
Avoid sugar completely if you can. One should also avoid the diet drinks as they are full of salt and other chemicals which hinder weight loss.
-
Finally, Dont be greedy, be patient. If you are giving input of 70% then you do not have the right to desire 150%, so your desires should match your efforts.
You can and will Beat the Bulge! All it takes is a little determination and proper guidance. Good luck!

Swarna Latha U can buy it in a natural food store if not from a raw drug retailer or any Ayurvedic medical storeJune 13, 2010 at 11:59 PM -
Haydee Thank you I ordered it from ebay a distributor in NY and then I found it in an Indian grocery store near my home. I am taking 1/2 tsp. every morning with water is this the right amount for the full benefits or should I take more?? Thank you always for the help.June 15, 2010 at 6:43 AM

Swarna Latha Increase it gradually to one teaspoon. Take it early in the morning in empty stomach with warm water. Initially it will detoxify the body. Eventually it will give rejuvenatory effect especially with milk.June 15, 2010 at 11:45 AM -
Shikha Mishra The form in which you are taking amla(Indian gooseberry) is very important. If you are taking triphala powder, take it 2hours after the meal in the night before sleeping. If you are taking it in the form of chyawanprash , you can have it after milk and if you are taking fresh amla juice, take it empty stomach in the morning.
But never take amla powder with milk or within two hours of having milk otherwise it may lead to severe indigestion.June 15, 2010 at 3:03 PM -
Haydee thank you both for the wonderful advice I just want to make sure. I am taking Alma powder and I take it like I said with 1/2 teaspoon with water in the morning.June 15, 2010 at 6:41 PM

Swarna Latha @shikha,
Amla powder taken with milk early in the morning in empty stomach will not cause indigestion as both of them are cold in potency and have laxative effects and hence they are synergistic in action. As a result their combination equalizes all the three humors in the body. When taken along with curd the efficacy is even more enhanced.June 16, 2010 at 12:08 AM -
Swarna Latha @haydee
you can very well start with the combination you have mentioned.June 16, 2010 at 12:10 AM -

Nagarjuna point 6....carrot,tomato and radish have enzymes....sure. but when consumed...are they not treated by the body as any external protein and are digested by proteases?July 27, 2010 at 4:26 AM
-
Nagarjuna i left for my studies abroad in 2008. 3 months before that....i went on a vegetable juice diet...coriander,mint,carrot,tomato,kheera,lime juice and honey blended.
and with milk...i used to have bran and honey.
i used to walk twice or thrice a day...around 20-25km on the whole and lost around 26kg in 3 months....from 114 to 88.
but once i came to sweden.....i somehow messed it all up with lots of shakes and other fatty food like pizza and stuff....and put on 14kg..and shot up to 102.
iam a converted veggie....been that way since 2005.
but i lose a few kg and sometimes gain em back.
what do i do?
iam pretty active though.
i can walk a hell of a lot...but time is a constraint.
what do u think i should do to lose 20kg by the end of november....when i will get back to india for a vacation?July 27, 2010 at 4:34 AM -

hi. its really good thing that u loose so well but u r doing only walking .. that is an aerobic exercises.these kind of exercises ll only help u loose fat but in such case ur body also tend to use protein from muscles so later u ll loose muscle mass.which ll end up decreasing ur strength .u need to do both brisk walk and weight training exercses also which ll improve ur muscle mass so ll improve ur BMR so that more of caloiries r burned by ur muscles.so u wont regain ur weight. try this u ll get a help good results..n best of luckAugust 6, 2010 at 5:31 AM -
