Acting as "responsible" and "mature" persons is really honorable, but this does not mean that you need to flaunt your gray hairs in public! Your gray hairs may represent your experience or your "scholarly" attitude, but this does not mean that you can give a "damn" to these changes! How will you feel when someone regards you as "Uncle" or "Aunty" while referring to a friend of your age as "Bro" or "Sis"? It's all in your hair and hair color!

You may say that you do not have that "heart" to pay loads of money to the beauty parlor staffs for hair dying every month! Then why don't you carry it out right at your home? Hair color not only covers gray hairs, but also boosts volume and shine, makes fine lines less noticeable and brightens a dull complexion. And you need nothing more than a hair dye of your choice, a pair of gloves, a mirror, a comb and your hands! These are the tips which can contribute to the success of dying your hair at home:
- Choose the Ideal Hair Dye: Permanent dyes are best for covering grays, but sheer glosses are ideal for brightening your shade or adding a new tint, blonds can go strawberry blond with a red gloss; brunettes can warm up with a blond gloss!
- Divide and Conquer: Properly divide your hair and make different sections first and then gradually taking each section one by one, you can apply the dye on the hair. This will allow the color to spread equally while giving full coverage. If you have bangs or really thick hair, create a separate section at the front to ensure that the color is saturated in this crucial spot.
- Consider Your Age: While choosing the shade, make sure it suits your age also. Extremely light or dark hair looks harsh against mature skin. For the most youthful effect, lighten hair about two shades from your current natural color. Lighter shades will soften your face and fine lines and age spots will look less noticeable.
- Use a Mixing Bowl and a Brush: Try using a mixing bowl and a brush instead of the readymade bottles that come along with the packages. You can have 4 sections depending upon the density or the volume of hair.Focus on one quadrant of hair at a time and paint the front and the back of small sections of hair.
- Take Care of the Roots: You need to pay extra attention to those small strands of hair that come on your face at times. Don't dye your ends when doing touch-ups-you always want your roots a little darker than your tips.
- Wear a Shower Cap: When covering grays, wear a shower cap as you wait for the dye to settle down. The heat from your head will naturally expedite color processing.
- Create a Paste: To fade a color that's too dark or too bright, create a paste with one part shampoo and one part powder bleach from a highlighting kit. Comb through the wet hair and rinse out when you start to see the color changing.
- Condition Your Hair: Make sure that you have conditioned your hair properly before you dye them because using color on dry hair is not something very healthy. You will want the cuticle to get moisturized adequately. Putting color onto very dry hair can make it more brittle and prone to breakage.
- Decide about the Duration: While choosing your hair dye, consider how long you'd like the color to last. Temporary hair color will wash out in just two to three shampoos; semi-permanent will wash out in seven to 12 shampoos; demi-permanent color lasts longer and permanent hair color should last until the hair grows out and to change, it must be dyed over.
- Check for Allergic Reactions: You may have some allergy towards the dye or the color product so make sure you test it on your hand or near the elbow and check. Allow 48 hours to see if you have got any allergy out of it. If it does, do not use this hair color and consider another brand.
- Use Gloves: Make sure you have put on your gloves in your hands.
- Follow Instructions: Follow the instructions written on the hair color box and apply the color mixture immediately on hair after you mix.
- Pin Up: Long hair needs to be pinned up so that they don't bother you in between while you color.
- Rinse: When the time is complete, carefully rinse all excess color from your hair. The instructions should tell you whether or not to use shampoo at this time.
- Use the Conditioner: The box may also have the conditioner that you must use after you wash your hair to make your hair soft and gentle.
Coloring your hair is a fun activity and the effects that you get later are more fulfilling! When someone compliments you as a "fashonista Barbie" or as a "gorgeous lion", then you seem to get the real payback!
