He was diagnosed with the medical condition when he was at the peak of his career.

Akram could hardly believe that he had diabetes when he was only 31 years old as he was a sportsman and had the least probability of becoming a diabetic. He kept on blaming God and asking him, "Why me?" He took around six weeks to come out of the mental trauma. He cited the following causes of diabetes in the subcontinent:

  • Young women are more prone to diabetes in this part of the world and they choose to hide their conditions with the fear that they would get rejected for marriages.

  • He goes to the gym.
  • He follows a restricted diet plan.
  • He does cardio exercises for a complete hour in the evening.
  • He monitors his blood sugar level very alternate day before breakfast and after lunch.

What are Akram's Recommendations?

  • He tells people not to overindulge in junk foods.
  • He tells parents of diabetic children to stop overreacting as it causes stress on the children.
  • He asks people not to hide their conditions and to come out in the open.
  • He asks people to stay in touch with people who exert positive influences and would help to stay away from sugary foods.
  • He suggests diabetic people to take shots thrice a day.
  • He asks them to monitor blood sugar levels regularly.
  • He tries to establish the importance of exercise and workouts in preventing and managing diabetes.

Since we all follow our role models in every aspect, so we should take this form of encouragement as well. They are not free from health conditions! The way they combat these conditions make them real heroes! And we should become real followers!
