What is the Slim Fast Diet?

Slim fast is actually a company founded by S. Daniel Abraham as a part of Thompson Medical Group in the year 1977. It focuses on making ready-made canned shakes, snack bars and soup mixes, which you can have a few times per day.

The Slim Fast Diet substitutes regular meals and snacks with bars and shakes. These products have low carbohydrate and high protein content. They provide your body with the nutrition you need without dumping in heavy calories.

How Does Slim Fast Diet Work?

The Slim fast diet works on the principle that by controlling fats, starches, and portion sizes, you can control calories. Thus, it replaces your normal meal with snack bars and soups. It involves having six meals and snacks at regular time intervals. The soups and bars will lower your every day calories to around 1200. It is also called the 3 2 1 plan because it involves:

  • 3 healthy snacks a day
  • 2 SlimFast Shakes or meal bars
  • 1 healthy meal

The meal plan that you follow is:

  • Your Breakfast is replaced with a Slim Fast shake or a bar. You can have one slice of French toast to supplement it.
  • Next is a snack which can be single piece of fruit or one cup of grapes.
  • Lunch is replaced with another Slim Fast shake, bar or other replacement meal. Of course, you can have something else with your bar but the total calories should not exceed 200 calories. You can have some salad or vegetables on the side.
  • Next, you will have another snack. You can have an apple or a snack bar.
  • Dinner is a healthy, sensible meal of nutritious foods composing of around 500 to 700 calories.
  • Finally, you finish off your day with another piece of fruit or some popcorn.

What are the Advantages of Slim Fast Diet?

There are many advantages to this diet:

  • It is a very convenient program that requires very less effort from the individual. It is perfect for people who are on the move.
  • You don't have to worry about counting calories, cooking meals, or figuring out portion sizes.
  • It is a very successful plan. Many have found success in their weight loss efforts.
  • It is a very flexible plan you do not generally feel restrained by the plan.
  • The snack bars are high in protein, so you do not feel any hunger pangs.

What are the Disadvantages of Slim Fast Diet?

There are a few disadvantages to the Slim fast diet program as well:

  • You may not like the taste of the snack bars.
  • It is a quick fix program that doesn't give you the long-term, lifestyle-changing tools necessary for permanent weight loss.
  • Because it is not tailor made for you, the results may vary.
  • It is a very expensive program in the long run.
  • Drinking the shakes and eating the bars everyday may become monotonous and boring.

A Balanced Diet along with regular exercise is definitely the perfect way to weight loss. However, very few people find the time have a proper fitness schedule. SlimFast diet is recommended for people who do not have time to prepare meals and are very much on the move. The bars and soups provide you adequate nutrition, without worrying too much about counting calories. Couple it with 30 minutes of moderate exercise to get maximum benefit.
