Leukorrhea is a malady that strikes women. It's a white or yellowish discharge appearing in the vagina, normally emitting a foul smell and is mainly due to hormonal imbalance or inflammation in the female reproductive organs. The symptoms that women exhibit when stricken with Leukorrhea include irritability, digestive problems, and irregular bowel symptoms. A black patch can also be seen around the patient’s eyes. This is a characteristic diagnosis for Leukorrhea.

Dos and Don'ts for Leukorrhea
According to Ayurveda, Leukorrhea occurs because of the excess secretion of Kapha Dosha in the body and women who are anemic, week and are emaciated are more prone to this malady. The dietary regime recommended for treatment of this problem includes a regular intake of supari or areca nut immediately after major meal times, as this practice help in its prevention. Women suffering from this ailment should not go hungry for long periods. Avoid consuming sour food items, curd and pickles. Stay away from fried and spicy foods. Learn to be happy at all times and banish stress and worries by taking up relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and pranayama. Go to bed early, never burn the midnight oil. Remain hygienic and avoid sexual contact when Leukorrhea is present. Early morning walks are a wonderful cure.
Ayurvedic Treatment
Tandulodaka, sphatika, pradarantaka lauha, lodhra asava and kumari are some of the other herbs used in the effective treatment of Leukorrhea.
Sphatika
Sphatika, which is alum, is used for both external and internal application. It can be combined with other medications like tandulodaka to double the relief from the malady. The preparation of this medication involves frying alum over fire in vessel, grinding to fine powder and then used for douching. Mix a tsp of Sphatika with other medications and douche the vaginal area for relief.
Tandulodaka
Tandulodaka is nothing but the water that remains after you wash rice. This recipe water used along with alum is used as a douche internally and externally. Tandulodaka helps expedite other medicines actions and provides quick recovery. Tandulodaka can be used alone also for good results. Drinking a cup of Tandulodaka regularly can help in curing Leukorrhea effectively.
Pradarantaka Lauha
This herb is administered to the patient along with Tandulodaka. The preparation of this medication includes mixing 125 mg of pradarantaka lauba with an equal amount of Sphatika, and this is seasoned with honey and consumed. The prescribed dosage is twice a day and consumed only on empty stomach.
Lodhra Asava
Another natural ingredient used in ayurveda to treat Leukorrhea is Lodhra which is used as a douche. The bark of the Lodhra comes in useful to prepare this medication. An extract is prepared using alcohol and other drugs are added to this concoction which is then used as douche. The prepared medication is termed Lodhra Asava. The Leukorrhea patient is given 30ml of this preparation twice a day along with water and it’s to be consumed right after food.
Kumari
This wonder herb is practically a life savior as it is used to treat a number of ailments in ayurveda. It’s known as Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera is highly popular in the West. Kumari has been used by Indian medical practitioners for thousands of years. It grows easily especially in sandy soil and has pink flowers.
Kumari is useful in treating the genital tract and uterus. It prevents the formation of abnormal cells and prevents the accumulation of fluids in the genital tract too. The extracted juice of Kumari leaves helps in toning the liver and helps in relieving constipation and promoting digestion. Hormonal imbalance is rectified on regular consumption of its juice. The juice is easy to prepare. Peel the outer skin and use the flesh inside. Mix this with honey for taste. A daily dose of 30 ml twice a day on empty stomach will show wonderful results.
