Rose Water and Skin Care

For centuries, Rose Water was considered to posses magical properties that were beneficial for your skin. Roman Emperor Nero used to bathe in rose perfumed pools and used to drink rose flavored wine with rose pudding for a dessert. Rose water has recently assumed greater importance for its numerous purposes including aromatherapy and in different recipes.

Rose Water and Skin Care

Rose water is made out of the distilled water of the rose petals. It has a very sweet and pleasant taste and fragrance that can be therapeutic as well as soothing for the skin. It is very rich in flavonoids and vitamins, including A, C, D, E and B3 that are beneficial for your skin. Rose water has many skin care benefits such as:

  • Moisturizing Properties: Rose Water can be used as a moisturizer for all skin types to tone, balance and moisturize. You can spray a little rose water on your face before cleansing to loosen dirt and foundation makeup while giving your face lasting softness without leaving it feeling greasy.
  • Effective Skin Cleanser: Rose water has natural cleansing properties that will help you reduce wrinkles, fine lines and skin inflammation. By mixing one cup of rose water with 10 drops of essential oil of rose and two teaspoon of glycerin, you can create an effective skin cleanser for your skin.

  • Important Ingredient in Skin Cream: Make sure you buy your skin cream which has rose water in it or apply your skin cream with some rose water. It works for both oily and dry skin and can fight several varieties of dermatitis because it helps to maintain the pH balance of the skin.
  • Treat Acne: Soak a few fenugreek (methi) seeds in water overnight and make a fine paste by crushing them in a blender. Add rose water and apply it on your face. Keep it on for about twenty minutes and rinse in cold water. This pack is helpful in treating acne.
  • Sunburn Treatment: Spraying rose water on your skin after every hour while outside helps prevents sunburns. Rose water also helps in preventing skin irritations and other signs of sunburns.
  • Antiseptic Properties: Did you know that rose water is a great antiseptic? Rose water could be used as a natural antiseptic medication on wounds. It has the ability to kill minor bacterias which lead to several kinds of skin disorders.
  • Stimulates Blood Circulation: Rosewater stimulates the circulation in the tiny blood vessels beneath the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of thread veins and broken capillaries.

You don't have to buy expensive rose water from the shops, you can make some for yourself at home as well. Buy some fresh roses, pluck their petals and put those petals in a pot of water. Let the water boil for about twenty minutes. Strain the liquid and keep it in the refrigerator. This is pure rose water that you can use in your cosmetics.

Leverage on the various benefits of rose water by simply applying rose water on your skin using cotton and get a fresh and young looking skin.
