Couples don’t need a reason to have sex – it is mankind’s basic instinct and something that’s a popular topic of conversation in hushed corners in any setting. Thanks to extensive research in the field of sexual health, scientists have now come up with yet another reason why you should dive into bed and spend some sensual hours every night – studies have shown that orgasms are very beneficial for health!

Orgasms and Their Health Benefits

The Many Types of Orgasms

Men achieve orgasm by stimulating their genital region either by themselves (through masturbation) or with the help of a partner. There are many ways of achieving this, and the easiest way to achieve an orgasm for a male would be through penetration.

Women experience two different types of orgasms, and these can be classified as vaginal and clitoral orgasms. It is important for men to be aware of both these types, so that they can identify an orgasm and work towards stimulating their partners. Many men bask under the misconception that women experience orgasms during penetration, and this is not wholly true. Studies point out that women are more likely to experience an orgasm through clitoral stimulation rather than through penetration.

  • Clitoral Orgasms: The clitoris is a small sexual organ that is present in females, and this is one spot where women experience maximum pleasure. The clitoris swells upon excitement during sexual activities, and the blood vessels surrounding this region in the entire genital area also swell. Orgasms that are achieved by stimulating the clitoris are termed as clitoral orgasms.
  • Vaginal Orgasms: Vaginal orgasms are achieved when the outer region of the vagina and the cervix are stimulated. These are very sensitive spots in women, and in some cases, orgasms achieved through vaginal stimulation can be more intense than clitoral orgasms. Vaginal orgasms can also bring about ejaculation in females, and this is heightened when the G Spot is stimulated.

Benefits of Orgasms

Orgasms are reached during the sexual climax, and they help the body in many ways, some of which have been given below.

  • Relieving Tension: Orgasms help in relieving tension, and they act as a fitting end to sexual intercourse. During intercourse, your blood flow increases and heart rate climbs up significantly. Muscular tautness is also other significant feature that can be noted during sexual intercourse, and all these are brought down during an orgasm. The entire body relaxes, and all tensions present in the nervous system are released.
  • Pain Management: Orgasms help in managing pain. Pain due to menstrual cramps and headaches can easily be wiped out through an orgasm, because the body releases endorphins during sex. This hormone is similar to morphine, and it increases the body’s pain toleration levels. This doesn’t mean that you should indulge in sexual activities whenever you’re in pain, but you can take the edge off your headache in bed!
  • Burning Calories: The best way to burn calories is by having sex. Sex can help where days and days of dieting can’t, because a lot of calories are burned up during sex by the body. Orgasms burn a lot of calories too, and they help in reducing cravings for food as well. Studies have shown that people who have an active sex life have lesser appetites. This is because during orgasm and sexual stimulation, a substance called phenetylamine is released, which plays a key role in managing an individual’s appetite. Your craving for food will decrease with regular sex, and you’ll also be able to burn existing calories.
  • Better Sleep: Orgasms normally have a tranquilizing effect, and they can help in relaxing your body and putting it to sleep. Muscles all over the body start relaxing after an orgasm and the blood pressure falls significantly during this time. This brings the body down to a tranquil state and helps in temporarily curbing insomnia.
  • Keeping The Skin Clean: During sex, perspiration occurs and this helps in flushing out all forms of impurities and toxins out of the human body. Skin nourishing oils are also released by the body during intercourse. This means that your skin will grow brighter every single time you have sex. You need not worry about beauty treatments or other conditioners for your skin anymore!
