May be we are expecting something good to happen in the New Year. We can get promotions in our offices or we might enter into new business ventures or build up new relationships! But all these things would carry along with them an added responsibility. This extra responsibility at home and at work can leave us stressed. In fact, stress is a constant factor which can drive us crazy even in the New Year. Stress alone can give birth to other health conditions like Diabetes and heart problems. So, to keep these conditions away, we should chalk out New Year Resolutions to manage stress.

New Year Resolutions to Reduce Stress

Here's what we can do to unwind:

  1. Focus on adequate sleep: This year you should focus on getting better quality and greater quantity of sleep. Inadequate sleep exerts a cause-effect influence on stress. For example, if you don't sleep well at night, the following day you would feel stressed. Again, if you are too stressed you get sleepless nights and the cycle continues.
  2. Take pleasure in your hobbies: You can make life interesting by doing things which interest you! This might include taking part in games and sports or spending some time in painting or writing stories. These hobbies can keep you engaged and mentally stimulated.
  3. Spend time with your friends: The New Year itself is a great occasion to meet old friends and to make new friendships. They are the ones would be with you during thick and thin. But conflicting relationships are harmful, so in the New Year you should focus on strengthening existing relationships, making new healthy relationships and cutting off ties from the conflicting relationships.
  4. Listen to good Music: You can heal your life and the world by music. The coming year, you should add more music to your life. Music therapy has found an eminent place in treatment options these days and it is a great way to release stress. You can get enough CDs of hit music collections this New Year to spice up your life.
  5. Clear up clutters from the corners of your home: Clutters create a messy situation in your home and this disorder creeps into your minds as stress. Therefore, before the New Year arrives, you should clear up all that is messy and give your home an organized look! A well-decorated and an organized home goes a long way to give you peace of mind!
  6. Practice some of the best stress relieving techniques: It is not possible to practice Yoga anytime or at any location. But there are certain instant stress relievers which can be practiced anywhere and anytime. Breathing exercises is one of them. Try out these exercises and feel its effects in the New Year.
  7. Practice yoga and meditation regularly: You should keep a regular session of yoga and meditation because these have a long term effect on reducing stress.
  8. Have a positive idea about life: We often tend to think in a negative way and our stress level rises. So it is very important for you to have a positive view about life to keep your stress levels within your control. You should raise the curtains of the New Year with positive self-talk and optimism.
  9. Reduce work-related pressure: Most of the stress in our lives originates from our jobs. This New Year, you should find ways of reducing your job-related stress. This can be achieved by finding tools to boost up your productivity levels or by implementing certain changes in your job aspects and by finding pleasure in some other activities after you return from work.
  10. Make a long term future plan: Sometimes, we feel so stressed that we only consider what is to be done the next day and we stay away from long term planning. But you really need to design a 3-year, 5-year or a 10-year plan to give yourself a clear idea of what you can do in the coming years. It would add motivation to your lives and you would feel like achieving your professional and personal goals. So it's high time to come out with our future plans before the New Year enters our lives!

Since stress would be there in our lives in varying degrees, so we cannot say goodbye to it just like the year 2010! But we can begin the new year with new hopes and objectives. Stress should not stand in the way of our achievement of targets and in the process of such achievement we should not get stressed! That's why we need to follow the New Year Resolutions to keep stress under control.
