Even though your face gets noticed first, your hands get the maximum exposure. They are in direct contact with harsh sun, chaffing winds and drying elements like detergents, hot water etc. As a result, the hands look years older than other parts of you.

How to Take Care of Your Hands?

Beautiful, well-kept and delicate hands are important. Hands tell you a number of things about yourself. Hands tell you how you lead your life and how you take care of your body and skin. It is said that the hands tell you how old a woman is. No matter how old you are; your hands tell an observer a lot about yourself as a person. With proper care, they can help make your overall appearance simply stunning. Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Use pH-balanced soap or liquid cleanser whenever possible. The skin is slightly acidic which helps it to repel bacteria and pollution. Most soaps are alkaline and will neutralize your skins acidity, reducing its resistance to infection and damage.
  • Exposure to cold and windy climate for long time can remove moisture from your skin. So, wear gloves whenever you go outdoors during the winter season.
  • On hot sunny days, wear sunscreen to protect you hands from the sun's ultraviolet rays.
  • Apply aloe gel to protect and prevent the hands from aging.
  • Do not remove cuticles (the dead skin at the base of a fingernail or toenail) since they are there protecting nails from infection.
  • Mix some glycerin, lemon juice and some drops of rosewater and use it to massage the hands every other day for radiant and soft skin of hands.
  • Do not use hot water, use warm water instead. Studies prove that using hot water strip the skin of its natural oils.
  • Wear gloves (preferably vinyl gloves) as much as possible during any work at home or in the garden. Gloves protect your hands from the irritating ingredients of household chemicals and cleansers. As you perform your usual household chores such as doing the laundry or washing the dishes, your hands are unduly exposed to the harmful effects of these common chemicals. Repeated exposure to these harmful chemicals leads to the drying of the skin which may even eventually result in chapped hands.

But I have Dry hands?

Dry hands are caused by many things like excessive washing, hot water, or the dry winter air. Here are some tips to keep them soft and younger looking:

  • The top of your hands dry out quicker. If you wash often, focus on your palms.
  • Strong or perfumed soap has a tendency to irritate skin. Stick with mild, moisturizing soap, particularly in the dry winter months.
  • Keep a bottle of lotion by the sink and use it after you wash your hands. Apply it while your skin is still damp to lock in moisture.
  • For emergencies, coat your hands with petroleum jelly, vegetable or mineral oil. Put on some gloves and wear them overnight.
  • Turn down the heat and take cooler showers and baths to reduce dry skin and the itch that often goes with it.

Proper hands care will make your hands beautiful and attractive. Proper care would also offer you great fair complexion along with smoothness and velvety touch skin on the hands.
