It's easy to let excuses get in the way of your weight loss. A lot of us have faced this situation at some point or another when we have scratched our heads to come up with a great excuse to avoid a diet plan. But in the end, diet excuses are like snowflakes - each one is different but each one is weak.

How to Overcome Dieting Excuses?

The main reason why we make excuses is because we are not committed. We don't know what we want to change, so it's easy for outside influences to distract us. But we don't have to be distracted. Here are a few diet excuses and how to overcome them:

  1. "Tomorrow for sure" or "I think Monday is the right day"

It doesn't matter what day you start on. You fitness plan will stay with you for your entire life. If you want a diet and are serious about it, start that today with no exceptions.

  2. "I love food too much to diet"

You don't have to hate food to start a diet program. And who said that starting a diet program will restrict you from eating good food. There are weight loss programs today that pay attention to anybody's wants and preferences. Good food doesn't kill your weight loss plan; it's your portions that kill your diet. So make sure that eat that you love but in moderation.

  3. "I don't have willpower"

Everybody has willpower. And the more you take on challenges the more you enhance your willpower. If you feel that you will chicken out of a diet plan, you should hide all the junk food in your house or just throw it away. This way, even if your willpower does let go, you won't have junk food to eat.

  4. "Eating healthy is expensive"

This is so not true. You don't have buy expensive "diet" foods to make sure that you diet is on track. All you have to do is eat healthy fresh food like fruits and vegetables, lean meats and whole grains, and they are in fact cheaper than the processed food.

  5. "I can't cook, so I have to eat out"

Cooking is easy. You can read up on recipes that are easy, quick, and healthy from many websites and cookbooks. Cooking techniques, such as grilling, microwaving, steaming, and stir-frying, are all easy ways to cook your food and they do not require any special knowledge as well.

  6. "I don't have the time"

Are you sure that you cannot take even 30 minutes out of 24 hours in a day to look after yourself. No one is ever going to be so busy that he/she cannot grill some fish, microwave a soup or even boil some veggies. Many dishes just take only minutes to prepare.

  7. "I will not be able to work if I am starving"

A good diet will make you more active, more productive and less hungry. You will be able to think better when you are eating fresh food rather than the one that is filled with preservatives and low on nutrition.

  8. "It runs in the family"

Some people try to hide their overweightness under the family gene excuse. It is true that some people do inherit a certain genetic tendency to be overweight. But Scientists have discovered that obesity is not a dominant gene. You do not always have to be fat just because your parents and grandparents are fat. You can certainly control your weight with some efforts. Take it one step at a time, and don't chase instant results.

  9. "I don't like fruits and vegetables"

You don't have to eat them in their raw form. You can easily add them to your soups, stews and stir-fries. You can include fresh fruit pieces in your cereal and oatmeal. You can juice them or even make smoothies of them. A little bit of innovation is all it takes to stick to your diet plan.

  10. "I travel much in my job and have to eat out a lot"

While ordering, make smart food choices. Order low fat nutritious food or choose food low in fat from the buffet. Replace vada with steamed idlis and naans with rotis. Opt for fish and chicken and that also grilled, broiled or steamed. When ordering salads request for honey and lemon dressing instead of mayonnaise, and ask for the dressing on the side so that you can use as much as you require.

These are just a few of the big fat excuses we all make not to diet. No one ever said that staring a diet program is easy but by busting these excuses you can come one step closer to success. So, what's your dieting excuse? How have you beaten it?
