How to Boost Your Energy Level?

While many people find caffeinated beverages to be an easy way to wake up in the morning or anytime during the day when sluggishness strikes, the reality is that while caffeine does offer some benefits, it can have a lot of negative side effects as well.

An exhausted body calls for measures to boost energy. Overexertion leads to fatigue and makes the body feel tired and worn-out. You will find it increasingly difficult to concentrate on any task, if your energy is drained out. It is important to pump up energy in your body at such times, in order to feel active once again. There are a lot of factors which result in the drainage of energy, but it can be supplemented by a lot of other means as well. So how do we recharge our batteries when there is a constant drain on our resources? Here are some tips to help you with the same:

  1. Keep a positive attitude: This is crucial. Negative thoughts deplete your energy and positive thoughts replenish your energy. Attitude is not something that just happens; you choose it. Even in difficult circumstances, you can choose to have a good attitude. And, whether good or bad, it will have a direct impact on your energy.

  2. Ten minutes of Sunshine: Ten minutes of sunshine has been shown to boost energy levels. The body needs sunshine to produce adequate levels of vitamin D that help elevate mood and create more energy. Just sitting outdoors soaking in the rays of the sun for ten minutes will provide warmth and lead to a feeling of rejuvenation.

  3. Get more sleep at night: Many people try to get by on a lot less sleep than they really need. While each person's needs will differ, 7-8 hours a night is a good goal, and will help you feel more rested and better able to concentrate on anything throughout the day.

  4. Eat smaller, more frequent meals: Medical experts agree that infrequent eating can cause your blood glucose to spike and crash, leaving you tired and hungry. And digesting huge meals can steal energy you need for other things. Instead, eat smaller meals throughout the day so you can keep your energy level and keep yourself feeling great.

  5. Try a nutritional supplement: Eating a balanced diet can help ensure our vitamin and mineral needs are met. But, many times our diets lack sufficient amounts of important vitamins and minerals. These deficiencies can cause us to feel fatigue. Taking a multivitamin can supplement your diet with the necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs. Energy-boosting supplements include B vitamins and magnesium that have a vital role to play in energy production.

  6. Drink water: This is another great energy replenisher. You will especially notice the difference if you switch from soda drinks to water. It may take you a few days to notice the difference, but getting sugar out of your system and water into your system will definitely even-out your energy. Try to drink about two litres each day.

  7. Avoid excess coffee: Coffee has the ability to give an initial rush of energy by activating the stress hormones. However, too much caffeine in any form can foster energy burnout as well. So, try to avoid excess of tea and coffee. You need to gradually cut down on your coffee intake, even if you are very fond of it. Switch over to healthier drinks, like juices and shakes, to enhance your energy.

  8. Avoid excess sugar: Excess sugar causes fluctuations in blood sugar, which can result in plummeting energy levels. Instead eat a lot of whole grains, which provide a slow and steady release of fuel, and your energy will be consistent and balanced. Insufficient protein is also a common reason for fatigue. So, keep some almonds and nuts handy for a quick and convenient protein snack.

  9. Try belly breathing: In Chinese Medicine, energy is called "qi" (pronounced "chi"), and one of the most important ways we make qi is by breathing deeply. Stress and poor posture are some of the reasons why your breath doesn't make it down to the bottom of your lungs and you end up using your chest muscles instead of your abdomen for breathing. When you chest breathe, only a small volume of air is drawn in which results in your energy levels plummeting, as you don't take in enough oxygen. When you breathe through your diaphragm (or bely breathing) it pulls the bottom of the lungs downward, causing them to fill and the belly to lift. Belly breathing is a simple way you can increase your qi energy. Take a few minutes out of your day to do some deep (belly) breathing. Place your hand on your belly and inhale through your nose. Feel how your belly raises. Release by exhaling through pursed lips and feel how your hand lowers.

  10. Get some exercise: A weak body is an unhealthy one. It can't fight the viruses, bacteria and diseases that threaten it on a daily basis. Getting enough exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Exercise strengthens the immune system, make you feel lively and boosts levels of endorphins, the happy chemicals that make us feel good. To get the benefit of exercise does not mean a sweaty workout at a gym, nor running a marathon. Exercise can be as simple as a daily walk of fifteen to twenty minutes. It helps move oxygen to the farthest points of the body. More oxygen means more energy. Today's working environment doesn't allow for a great deal of time to get in exercise, but those coffee, smoke and lunch break are great opportunities to get in some stretches, power walks, squats, push-ups and crunches.

  11. Look at your accomplishments: When you've got a lot on your plate at work, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and start feeling down on yourself and exhausted. Instead of looking at the bad side of things, try thinking about all the things you have gotten done. It will improve your mood and give you the energy to go on.

  12. Reestablishing relationships: A busy lifestyle means that many don't have time to keep relationships with family members and friends strong. Reconnecting means more than chatting on a cell phone. It means personal contact that helps unload the stress of life. Personal contact helps toward finding solutions. The act of conversation helps improve energy levels.

Boosting energy levels is not a mystery once the causes of fatigue and depression are known. But taking charge of life and changing some negative lifestyle habits can lead to the better ability to cope with normal stress levels and ensure a good life.
