The origin of abdominal pains could be varied. It could be menstrual pain, urinary tract related pain, or the common "tummy aches" we often get due to indigestion or excess gas formation. The weekend outings usually lead us to indulge in foods that we want to avoid, but when friends and family meet, it is as if there is no tomorrow as far as food is concerned. But then, tomorrow does arrive with the bout of "tummy aches." There are some home remedies that come to your rescue at such times.

Home Remedies for Abdominal Pain

Home Remedies for Abdominal Pain

Different types of home remedies can be prepared for abdominal pain arising from indigestion. Chewing certain things, drinking teas made of some spices, or even mixing different juices and having all give you good results.

  • Ginger: Mix 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger juice with 1/2 a teaspoon of ghee (clarified butter) and drink. This will give instant relief from abdominal pain.
  • Betel Leaves: Chew a few betel leaves along with rock salt crystals. This will give immediate relief.
  • Pudin Hara: Add a few drops of Pudin Hara to half a cup of water and drink this 3 to 4 times. If you don't have Pudin Hara, extract a teaspoon of juice of fresh mint leaves (pudina). Add this to a cup of water and drink. Although this will not taste good, it will give you instant relief.
  • Asafetida (Hing): Make a paste of asafetida powder and water. Now lie down on your back and fill your belly button with this. Remain in this position for 15 to 20 minutes. Subsequent to this, you will release some gas, which will give you relief from abdominal pain.
  • Passion Fruit: Drink the water in which 2g of passion fruit has been blanched.
  • Cardamom (Elaichi): Soak cardamom seeds in a cup of water for 10 minutes. Drink the water. Do this 3 times a day, preferably before your meals.
  • Carom Seeds (Ajwain): Boil one cup of water containing a teaspoon of ajwain for 5 minutes. Strain, add a pinch of salt, and drink.
  • Rosewater: Drinking rosewater gives relief from nausea and stomachache.
  • Celery Seeds: Chew 1/2 teaspoon of celery along with a pinch of salt. After that, drink a cup of warm water.

Tea Remedies

Teas made from the following herbs and spices give relief from stomachache:

  • Chamomile
  • Peppermint
  • Cinnamon
  • Cumin

Mixed Remedies

Concoctions made by mixing together different juices also works great for stomachache. Some such concoctions are:

  • Mix together 1 teaspoonful each of lemon juice, ginger juice, and mint juice.
  • Mix a teaspoon of ginger juice, a drop of castor oil, few carom seeds, a pinch of black salt in a cup of warm water.
  • Grind together some mint, ginger, garlic, asafetida, cumin seeds, coriander powder, black pepper powder, and black salt in equal quantities and mix with warm water. Consume this 2 times a day.

All work and no play can make anyone dull. Weekends are for meeting friends and family after 5 to 6 "no-time-to-talk days." However, it is not necessary to keep food as the focal point. You can organize some camping or trekking trips instead, which could turn out to be great fun.
