We often talk about blackheads! But we only know that the appearance of blackheads can affect the way we look! And most of us do not really bother to know how these blackheads form! We even know very less about the ways to deal with them. This is a question which draws everyone's attention! Most of us think that squeezing is a viable option to get rid of blackheads. Let's go through some general information about blackheads and the different ways of dealing with them.

What are Blackheads?
Blackheads or Comedones are the black skin spots which occur due to excess deposition of oil. Blackheads result when dead skin cells and sebum (oil) block a hair follicle near the surface of the skin. They enlarge the oily skin pores as a result of which the texture of the skin tends to become rough.
What Causes Blackheads?
There are various reasons why you may have a blackhead breakout. Some are:
- Excess oil production can lead to the development of blackheads.
- Androgen, a male hormone, is the leading cause of increased blackheads.
- Use of certain skin-care products or mixing up of makeup with your body's natural oil can cause blackheads.
- Humidity and environmental pollutants can also lead to a black head breakout.
How can You Cure Blackheads?
For blackhead removal, use medicated removal strips available in the market. These strips unclog the pores effectively. This is an instant fix to get rid of blackheads. But certain home remedies are also available which will allow you to make use of natural items for the cure. These are listed below:
- Make a solution of lime juice, almond oil and glycerin and apply on the face to get rid of black spots.
- Apply a small amount of warm honey on the affected area to loosen the blackheads. You can then squeeze them out.
- Take two tablespoons of oatmeal, three tablespoon of yogurt, one tablespoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of olive oil. Blend them together and apply the mixture over the affected area. Then wash it after 5 to 7 minutes.
- Make a paste of cucumber peel, apply it on your face and keep it for 25 minutes. This will not only clear your blackheads but will also fix the acne problem.
- Apply a paste of fresh methi (fenugreek) leaves over the face every night and wash with warm water after 10 to 15 minutes.
- Make a paste of ground radish seeds with water and apply it on face to remove blackheads.
- Take two teaspoons of sodium bicarbonate and boil it in 3 to 4 cups of water. Steam a towel in this solution and place it on your face. Repeat the process for 5 to 6 times a day.
- A paste made out of 5 grams of red sandalwood powder, 5 grams of turmeric (haldi) and some milk can be applied on the skin to cleanse clogged pores.
How can You Prevent the Formation of Blackheads?
Preventing blackheads is a fairly easy procedure. Just be a bit disciplined while following these notes:
- Don't use oil-based creams.
- Always keep your skin hydrated by drinking ample amounts of water.
- Do not use soap as it can clog the pores in your skin. Make use of a gentle cleanser which is specifically prepared to treat acne prone skin.
- Exfoliation is an important step to eliminate dead skin cells which are the main causes of blackheads. Use a mild scrub to remove the dead cells and to reduce the possibility of blackhead formation.
- Stay away from oily meals to prevent the formation of blackheads.
- Take hot showers. Steam widens the pores and permits the removal of extra oil.
All you need is a good skincare routine to keep blackheads at bay. Blackheads cannot be considered as serious issues, but they can be considered as the foundation for acne and pimples. So you need to get rid of blackheads in their initial stages before they take an "uglier" shape!
