Summer is the time for colorful stylish clothes. It is the time of the year where hot short shorts, flattering bikinis and miniskirts are all over the place. It is the time when everybody wishes they are slimmer so they can flaunt their physique at the beach or near the swimming pool.

Get Ready to Sweat More This Summer!

But a little known fact is that summer is also a perfect month to lose some extra weight because the days are sunny and bright, so the weather is perfect for some outdoor exercises. Winter brings in winter weight because of all those holidays and fattening food. So summer is the perfect month to get things right.

Summer weight loss is very much possible. It is actually easier to lose weight in the summer because there are so many activities you can naturally lose weight without even trying. Here are a few suggestions:

Water Sports

  • Swimming: Why sweat in the hot sun when you can dive into the pool and lose some weight in the process. Depending on how much effort you put into it, swimming can actually burn more calories than running and is easier on your joints. You can also try aqua aerobics. You'll be surprised at how much fun it is.
  • Kayaking: Kayaking involves applying strong force against ripples of water. This helps sculpt upper body, shoulders, triceps, biceps, back, and core. You can lose 340 calories in just one hour.

Court Sports

  • Tennis: The game of Tennis is not only excellent for weight loss but it also builds muscle, increases bone density, is a great opportunity to have a great time with friends or family. Tennis provides a whole body workout and is fun! Men can burn up to 560 calories an hour and women up to 420 calories an hour.
  • Basketball: Basketball is a brilliant activity for both mind and body as you need quick reflexes and good judgment as you try to out score your opponent. Basketball is also ideal for developing hand/eye coordination and teamwork. You can burn anywhere from 400 to 550 calories an hour.
  • Volleyball: Playing volleyball, especially beach volleyball, is a popular choice for summer recreational activity. It is a great activity that provides total body workout, and improves your hand-eye coordination and reflexes. By playing volleyball, you can burn around 220 to 300 calories per hour. You can burn more calories by playing beach volleyball as the sand provides resistance to make it extra tough.

Indoor Fun Activities

  • Martial Arts: You can choose various forms of martial arts. But whichever one you choose, each one is a great way to get involved in a sport that involves strength, coordination and mental discipline.
  • Dancing: Whether you like ballet or hip-hop, dancing encourages you to be creative and move your body freely. You can spend time learning new moves and also get a great workout. You can burn anywhere from 200 to 600 calories per hour, depending on the tempo and type of dance.
  • Jumping Rope: One of the oldest summer past time activity, jumping rope is still a favorite on most playgrounds. It challenges both coordination and stamina. You can burn up to 1000 calories per hour by jumping rope, making it one of the most efficient workouts possible.

Outdoor Fun Activities

  • Mountain Biking: Mountain biking is a thoroughly exciting sport that can be taken up by anyone who has the ability to ride a bike. However, this is very different from the ordinary biking since it involves tough challenges and some biking skills that may not be utilized with biking on ordinary places. But you don't have to be a professional cyclist to enjoy mountain biking. You can start with beginner trails and still burn as many as 400 calories in 30 minutes.
  • Hiking: Hiking is essentially walking in the wilderness, up mountains, round lakes, through forests. It is a wonderful way to experience the beauty of our surroundings and native wildlife, and at the same time lose some weight without knowing it. You can burn anywhere from 300 to 500 calories per hour depending on whether you are walking on a flat trail or climbing a more challenging spot with hills.

Although rigorous or moderate exercise will help you lose weight there is nothing more helpful than indulging in an activity that you like the most. You can go ahead and pick any activity as long as you couple it with a good nutrition plan.
