We can control various health conditions by the intake of appropriate foods. Diet has a special impact on our health. In fact, diet shapes our health. So it is obvious that diet can act as a remedy for different types of health conditions. We often come to hear that many people known to us have been suffering from thyroid problems. Hyperthyroidism or the excessive secretion of the thyroid hormone and Hypothyroidism or a decreased secretion of the same are the two problems associated with the thyroid gland. The metabolic rate increases and there is a tendency to lose weight. But according to American Thyroid Association, once hyperthyroidism is treated and the thyroid level comes in control, weight loss will no longer be an issue.

Relation between Celiac Disease and Hyperthyroidism

People with celiac disease are more prone to develop hyperthyroidism. These people are highly susceptible to Grave's Disease, an autoimmune disease, which might further lead to hyperthyroidism. A gluten free diet plays a very important role in avoiding and managing the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

Role of Iodine in Hyperthyroidism

In some rare cases, one can develop hyperthyroidism as a result of excessive iodine intake in the diet. Such a case can be treated once the excessive iodine is removed. Limit the intake of high iodine foods like salt or iodized salt, sea-foods, eggs and dairy products and avoid plants which are grown in rich iodine soil.

Can Diet make any Difference in Hyperthyroidism?

There is nothing specific in the diet that can affect the causes of hyperthyroidism, but an intake of a moderately high calorie and a balanced nutritious diet is essential to maintain a good quality of life.

Proper medical supervision and discipline in sticking to the regular routine can help people cope up with the issues of hyperthyroidism. People need to be aware of the risk factors in order to shape their diet and lifestyle accordingly.
