Premature ejaculation is a condition where a man is generally unable to control the expulsion of semen and it takes place voluntarily, even if he doesn't want it to happen just yet. When premature ejaculation takes place, it becomes undesirable for both partners and the sexual act in itself becomes disappointing.

During the act of sex, if the male partner experiences premature ejaculation, the woman becomes extremely disappointed as she will not experience any orgasms and derive any sexual satisfaction from the act itself. Premature ejaculation can happen during foreplay in some men, while some men experience it immediately after they penetrate into the vagina. Men of all ages experience this condition while it is more common in adolescents, young adults and inexperienced men.
What does Ayurveda have to Say About This Condition?
In Ayurveda, it is known as Kshiprumunchati Shukram which means premature ejaculation happens if the man is predominantly vata and this leads to the ejaculation of semen or shukra. Shukraghata Vata is the clinical condition under which this condition is described. It is a clinical condition which impels and restrains various metal activities and is responsible for the mind’s function. Shukra or semen is the finest tissue element present in the body and has the functions of Cyavana (or ejaculation), Dhairya (or courage) and Preeti (or pleasure).
Causes of Premature Ejaculation
The common causes for premature ejaculation are abstinence from sex for long periods, depression or anxiety about poor sexual performance, anxiety of rejection by partner, anxiety during first experience of sex, anxiety to satisfy partner, bad sexual experiences in childhood, stress, monetary and relationship problems, side effects of prescription drugs and inflammation of prostate gland or even spinal cord problems.
Men who indulge in sexual acts when they are stressed out or have some nagging problem in their minds are most likely to experience premature ejaculation. It’s advisable to men to indulge in sex only when they are totally relaxed so they can enjoy every moment of it with their partner.
Ayurvedic Remedies For Premature Ejaculation
- Drink milk after consuming a meal of swastika rice, which is an Indian rice of high nutritional value, mixed with ghee or clarified butter along with black gram gruel (thin porridge).
- Abhyangam can be practiced, and this is the application of oil over the entire body. Leaf bundle massages or Elakizhi, Pizhichil or Sarvanga Dhara oil bath, Shiro Dhara (where oil is poured on head), Shali Shastika Pinda Swedam or Navarakizhi and Uttara Vasthi also fall under this method. Vasthi is the best among the panchakarma treatments as it helps control vata which is the primary cause for premature ejaculation. Patients undergoing ayurvedic treatment for this condition are taught stress relieving techniques, correct breathing exercises, yoga and lifestyle corrections.
- Pranayama (that involves correct ways to breathe) is taught to patients. Lifestyle corrections include eating a healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and grains. Patients suffering from premature ejaculation are first made to detoxify their bodies during treatment. They are provided with fresh juices and salads for a few days to remove all unwanted wastes before the actual medications are administered.
- Ancient ayurvedic texts recommend the consumption of herbs like Himalayan Shilajit (also popularly known as purified asphaltum), Ashwagandha (also known as Withania Somnifera) and Dhatupaustic Churna, which is a formulation made by combining 16 different herbs that help to promote a healthy balance between mind and body, so that the sexual act in itself is satisfying to both the partners.
It’s important that man should learn to control his mind, and if he is successful in this exercise, he will be in the best position to have complete control over his natural urge to ejaculate prematurely.
