In modern times, we have lost touch with our inner self. We don't have an inner solace or a connection with our soul. Meditation can help in reuniting a person with his true inner self. Meditation unites your mind, body and spirit. If you want your thought processes to work in a more organized fashion, you should try meditation. The benefits of meditation are manifold. It can relax the body and calm the mind.

10 Tips For Practising Meditation

Learning how to meditate is not easy. Hence failure rate among beginners is a lot. Everyone needs help when beginning a meditation routine. So, here are some tips to remember when you plan to make meditation a part of your life:

  1. Educate Yourself: Confusion and misunderstanding is primarily caused by ignorance. Read some books on meditation and spiritual practice. Find a good teacher or online community where you can get answers.
  2. Set Aside a Specific Time: Make mediation a regular part of your day. Set aside a bit of time so that you can be quiet and not be disturbed. Although it is advised that you should meditate in the morning, you can also do it in the evening if you are facing time constraints.
  3. Don't Meditate on the Fly: If you have some chores that you need to do, finish them before starting your meditation routine. You must have a clear mindset before you even consider sitting down to meditate.
  4. Stretch First: Stretching loosens the muscles and tendons making you more comfortable. Stretching is a process of "going inward" and brings added attention to the body.
  5. Get Comfortable: Find a quiet place and get comfortable where you are sitting. Invest in a good, comfortable meditation cushion. Whether you sit on a chair or cross-legged on the floor, make sure that your spine is upright with head up. Close your eyes, relax, and sit back to observe your thoughts.
  6. Prepare Your Mind: Allow your mind to settle on the innate stability and strength of your inner self. If you feel that other thoughts are drifting into your mind during meditation, gently try to return the focus. A simpler way to clear your mind is to focus on your breathing.
  7. Chant Mantra: Using mantra is a widely practiced meditation technique. While meditating, you can repeat words with positive vibration such as 'om', 'love', 'peace' and 'relax'.
  8. Breathe Deeply: While meditating, you should take long and deep breaths. You should not breathe from the chest; rather you should breathe from your abdomen. This is an important aspect of meditation and after a few sessions, it would come naturally to you.
  9. Length of Meditation: The rule of thumb is the more you meditate the more benefits you will receive. But you should be focused all throughout. Start with a modest time, say about 15 to 20 minutes, and gradually work up to an hour.
  10. Try Different Types of Mediation Techniques: There are many different meditation techniques for you to try. So if one technique doesn't feel right to you, keep trying new meditation techniques until you find the right one for you.

The above tips can help you meditate more regularly thus making meditation a big part of your life. They will also motivate you to meditate more often thus making you a more peaceful and a happy person!
