Fish in Banana leaves Recipe

A delicious steamed parsi dish with chunks of fish smeared with green chutney and wrapped in banana leaves. It also looks really pretty when served wrapped-up in the banana leaf.

Ingredients (Makes 4 Serving)

  • Any fish, large chunks - 8
  • Banana leaves - 3-4
  • Lemon juice - 4 tablespoons
  • Coconut, scraped - 2 tablespoons
  • Green chillies, chopped - 4
  • Fresh coriander (dhania) leaves, chopped - 1 cup
  • Garlic - 6-8 cloves
  • Cumin (jeera) seeds - 3 teaspoons
  • Salt - to taste

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle lemon juice and salt on the fish chunks and marinate for fifteen minutes.
  2. Grind together coconut, green chillies, coriander leaves, garlic and cumin seeds to a fine paste.
  3. Keep each fish piece on a piece of banana leaf, spread green chutney on both sides and fold the leaf over the fish to make a parcel.
  4. Heat water in a steamer. Keep the fish parcel in the steamer and steam for five to seven minutes. Serve hot.
