Besan Paratha Recipe

A highly nutritious gram flour bread popular in Jain and Punjabi Cuisine.

Ingredients (Makes 2 Serving)

  • 1/2 cup Besan (Gram Flour)
  • 1/2 cup Atta (Wheat Flour)
  • 1 - 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1.2 tsp Turmeric (haldi) Powder
  • 4 pinches Asafetida (hing)
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves (hara shania) - finely chopped
  • 1 medium-sized Onion - finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients except oil in a bowl and knead it into soft dough using warm water.
  2. Cover the dough with a muslin cloth and leave it for 15 minutes.
  3. After the desired time period, divide the dough into equal portions and roll out each portion into a small circle.
  4. Now apply a little oil in the center of each circle and fold all the adjoining sides.
  5. Roll out the above into a bigger circle and place it on a heated griddle.
  6. Once paratha is cooked on one side, turn it over; apply oil on the cooked side.
  7. Now allow to cook the other side and repeat the same process till both sides are properly cooked.
  8. Put off the flame and serve Besan Paratha with low fat curd.
