Extreme joy or happiness and extreme stress or sadness has their own fallacies. And commonly, both can make you gain some body weight. If marriage denotes happiness and divorce denotes sorrow, then both of these transitions have been found to be associated with weight gain. But these two incidences are found to affect men and women differently.

Marriage in Women and Divorce in Men Linked to Weight Gain

Women have been found to add on a few extra kilos after their marriage while men have been noted to develop wider waistlines after a split. The first case is quite common and we have observed this phenomenon in our friends and close associates. And in some extreme cases, we have had our mouths kept wide open for quite a few minutes before passing out a pretty consoling comment.

But the second case has been recently found out by researchers at the Ohio State University. They followed over 10,000 people in the U.S. in the period between 1986 and 2008 after their marriage or divorce.

It was observed that the people who have either married or divorced, were more likely to gain some weight within the next two years in comparison to those who were never married. The study only found out the results, but it did not come up with any justification as to why such weight gains may occur after these life transitions.

But they have cited a possible reason for these results. According to them, women do not find adequate time for exercise after marriage while fulfilling household duties and this is why they gain some weight. And for men, weight gain occurs because of the fact that married men get some health benefits, which get lost after a divorce.

People above 30 have been found to be more susceptible to gain weight. And this probability increases with age. Researchers have opined that marriage and divorce come as a sudden shock which creates a deeper impact as we grow older in comparison to what it would have generated at a younger age.

So guys, just think twice before getting married or signing off a relationship. It's not that women should only consider marriage as a risk factor while men will think about the divorce-danger, but they can think from each other's point of view as well. Men, your women may become plump chicks after marriage and you, yourselves may become fatter after divorcing your fat wives. In that case, you may find it harder to find another woman. Find a fix for this cycle reaction.
