Whenever we have talked about strawberries, we have definitely mentioned about what people mostly like to hear- romance, passion and libido. In fact, the media have hyped the use of strawberries through provocative ads showing gorgeous women biting into reddish pink strawberries with their fleshy and glossy lips. And now, strawberries will get a higher rating with a research claiming that the pink berries can boost the antioxidant capacity of the blood.

Eat Strawberries: Enhance the Antioxidant Capacity of the Red Blood Cells

Researchers at the Marche Polytechnic University (UNIVPM, in Italy) and the University of Granada (UGR, in Spain) have found that strawberries can promote the response of the red blood cells towards oxidative stress, the root cause of several diseases.

The study was conducted with 12 volunteers, who were asked to consume 500 grams of strawberries for a period of two weeks. Blood samples were collected from them after 4, 8, 12 and 16 days. The test reports indicated that the daily intake of this fruit can boost the antioxidant power of blood plasma along with promoting the resistance of the red blood corpuscles to oxidative haemolysis.

Researchers clarified that certain varieties of strawberries are really helpful in fighting the oxidative stress. In this particular study, researchers used the Sveva variety. The free radical fighting capability of strawberries can be attributed to the presence of phenolic compounds like flavonoids, which are known to be excellent antioxidants.

The free radicals, if allowed to loiter around "freely" may lead to diseases like cancer, cardiovascular problems and diabetes. If this is not enough to make you include a few "passion" berries in your diet, then this particular reason may work well - oxidative stress causes aging, with all its visual effects- wrinkles, spots and lack of attention from partner. Take some days to decide.
