This is not a granny's advice. Rather, it's a suggestion from today's "modern" researchers. So you may take a more serious approach in implementing or following it. So what is it which may interest you this time? Oh no, it's one more "granny-type" advice for pregnant women. If you are pregnant, then consider including fish oil in your diet. This way, you'll be able to save your child from symptoms of cold in his later life. And the credit has bagged by - as usual- the Omega-3 fatty acids present in such oil.

The study conducted by researchers at the Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health, in Atlanta, consisted of more than 800 Mexican women. The expectant moms were randomly chosen to be offered either 400 milligrams of DHA daily or a placebo.
The DHA or docosahexaenoic acid supplement was synthesized from algae and not from fish oil because the researchers did not want to reveal the type of pills which were offered to the women. The women began consuming the supplements during their second trimester and continued taking it till they delivered their babies.
In the next six months, the mothers were questioned about symptoms of cold and fever in their children and the duration of such symptoms. Researchers found that the duration of these symptoms were much shorter in women who consumed the DHA supplements in comparison to those who took the placebo. The DHA children were found to be at a 24 percent lower risk of experiencing any cold symptom.
Researchers are of the opinion that it is too early for doctors to prescribe DHA supplements to pregnant women based on the results of this study. They are interested to carry out more studies on it.
