Drink lovers, you may get an opportunity to put up your cause. And you may get an edge over your family members and friends as well. Tell them that drinking in moderate amounts will help you to prevent Alzheimer's and dementia. But put emphasis on the word "moderate" and be honest.

Researchers at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine have concluded that drinking alcohol especially wine in moderate amounts will go a long way to protect you from cognitive impairment after they examined the case history of over 365,000 people who participated in 143 studies since 1977.
The results indicated that the moderate drinkers had a 23 percent lower risk of developing dementia, Alzheimer's or any other issues related to cognitive impairment. On the other extreme side, heavy drinking was found to be associated with a higher risk of these conditions. But this finding was not found to be statistically significant.
So what amounts to moderate drinking? For men, it is two drinks per day while for women it is one drink a day. And the measurements for heavy drinking are more than three to five drinks a day. So does that give you the permission to buy bottles of Chivas Regal, Royal Challengers or Teacher's?
No. Drinking and specifically heavy drinking will always remain as the evil. Parties and inclusion of hard drinks may remove the social taboos and a glass of whiskey may bring two enemies together, but the role of hard drinks in spoiling relationships cannot be undermined as well. It's your choice - drink it or allow it to drink you up.
