A woman's depression, her mental displeasure, her mood swings, her restlessness may get one single explanation from the rest of this world- menopause (if she is of that age). Menopause has earned the reputation of a culprit for all the woes experienced by mature women. In fact, if a postmenopausal woman gets some nightmares, then also the reason will be cited as menopause by her mental health counselor and the well-wishers around her.

So far, science has blamed menopause for increases incidences of cardiovascular death in women. But a recent study has revealed that there exists no connection between menopause and an increased risk of heart disease.
Researchers at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine have stated that it is aging and not the post menopausal hormonal changes which contribute towards increased incidences of deaths in older women.
This finding may have some implications on the risk assessment for premenopausal women, who were believed to be at a lower risk of experiencing death on account of heart attack.
Researchers are of the opinion that aging touches cells of the heart and arteries in the same way as the other tissues of the body and that is the reason why, the incidences of heart attacks in women go on increasing as the years pass by.
The researchers conducted an analysis of the death statistics of people who took birth in the United States, Wales and England in the period between 1916 and 1945. Researchers found that the increase in the death rates of women during menopause had not exceeded the steady curve linked to aging.
This indicates that special attention needs to be given to heart health of women throughout their life as they age and not just after menopause. Well, menopause, itself, is an event of the aging process. Women pass through this phase as their ages go on adding years to their "life calendar". Women grow older and experience menopause. But aging becomes the "innocent" criminal as people seek to put menopause behind the bars.
