To cut calories when eating out in a restaurant, order an appetizer as your main dish. If you are still hungry, order a salad.

Appetizers usually have smaller portion sizes and thus won't encourage you to overindulge. When ordering salad, order it without mayonnaise based dressing (choose vinaigrette dressing).
