If you are diabetic or want to lower your blood sugar level, take the juice of 4-5 bitter gourds (karela) every morning on an empty stomach.

Bitter gourd contains a hypoglycemic compound (a plant insulin), which has been found to be beneficial in lowering the blood and urine sugar levels. If you are taking  medications to lower your blood sugar, adding bitter gourd might make your blood sugar drop too low. Monitor your blood sugar carefully.
