Many studies indicate that red wine contains Resveratrol - found in grape skins and seeds - that can alter the blood lipid level by increasing HDL cholesterol ("good" cholesterol) and prevent blood from clotting (which can lead to heart attack). But drink it only in moderation (one to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women with one drink defined as 120 ml of wine) to receive the benefits, else the bad effects (nerve cell damage, and pancreas and liver damage) of alcohol overtake the beneficial effects. Also, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions people not to start drinking if they do not already drink alcohol.
