Choose brown rice over white rice. Brown rice contains selenium which helps strengthen your immune system & lowers the risk of various cancers.

Selenium, a trace mineral, plays an plays an important role in various metabolic pathways including the antioxidant defence systems, thyroid metabolism and immune function. In several animal studies, it has been suggested that selenium induces DNA synthesis and DNA repair in damaged cells. It also inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells. The mineral also works with vitamin E and helps in the process of scavenging the free radicals. A cup of cooked brown rice provides around 27% of the daily value for selenium.
