Before storing fresh vegetables or fruits in fridge, discard any items that are decaying or damaged.

Decayed or damaged produce produces much higher levels of ethylene than normal which can speed up the ripening process of the other produce. In addition, mold and fungal spores can easily transfer from one piece to another.
