Health Tip for 15 November, '10

Apples contain pectin that can lower "bad" cholesterol. By eating just 2 apples a day, you can reduce your cholesterol level by up to 10%.

Pectin is a soluble siber that lowers cholesterol, probably by interfering with the intestinal absorption of bile acids, which forces the liver to use circulating cholesterol to make more bile. The polyphenols extracted from apples are also shown to significantly lower cholesterol. They also contain quercetin, potassium and magnesium which help in keeping your blood pressure under control. Other pectin rich fruits include pears and citrus fruits.
