Health Tip for 18 May, '11

Add lemon or milk to the tea or drink tea between meals, so that tea doesn't interfere with the absorption of iron from fruits & vegetables.

Tannins in tea form a bond to the iron (more specifically, to the non-heme iron found in plants), thereby limiting the body's ability to absorb this important mineral. Adding lemon or milk to the tea helps neutralize tannin's effects on iron absorption.
