Health Tip for 05 August, '09

Add 1 teaspoon of wheat bran (chokker) per roti (chapati) in the wheat flour to increase insoluble fiber in your diet.

Most people think of fruits and vegetables when they think about fiber, but actually it is the fiber in chokker or wheat bran which weight loss specialists talk about when they want to suggest fiber. The fiber in fruits and vegetables, though quite useful, is in much lesser quantity. Researchers have studied wheat bran and determined that it is mostly insoluble, although it absorbs large amounts of water. When used in moderation, insoluble fiber promote regular bowel movement and prevent constipation. It also removes toxic waste through colon in less time.
