Health Tip for 08 November, '09

High Blood Pressure Remedy: Take a diet rich in high potassium foods like oranges, bananas, spinach (palak) and cabbage.

Potassium plays an important role in regulating your blood pressure, bone mass, nervous system, muscle function, and heart, kidney, and adrenal functions. People who are taking medication for hypertension are usually recommended to eat a food that is rich in potassium because the increased potassium may increase the amount of sodium excreted from the body. Your daily intake of potassium should total 7 grams per day. Foods rich in potassium include bananas, oranges, avocado, strawberries, potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage, turmeric (haldi), spinach (palak), cucumber and broccoli.
