Triphala is one of the most popular Ayurvedic herbal remedies consisting of equal parts of three fruits: Harada, Amla, and Bihara. The three herbal fruits of Triphala promote internal cleansing, reduce conditions of stagnation and excess, and improve digestion and assimilation of nutrients.
Triphala is used to promote appetite and digestion, increase the number of red blood cells, and aid in removal of undesirable fat in the body. When dissolved in the mouth, Triphala is used to clear congestion and headaches. Other claimed benefits include helping maintain normal blood sugar levels, as well as improvement in skin tone and colour.
The herb also has a high nutritional value, including high levels of vitamin C. Because of its high vitamin content, Triphala is often used as a food supplement like vitamins are in Western countries. In recent years, a number of research studies have found new uses for this herb, including treatment for various forms of cancer.
