Streptococcus

Streptococcus are a group of bacteria, familiarly known as strep, that cause a multitude of diseases. The name comes from the Greek strepto - meaning twisted + kokkos meaning berry. Illness caused by strep includes strep throat, strep pneumonia, scarlet fever and rheumatic fever.
