Hypertension
Hypertension is another name given to high blood pressure, a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated.
Lifestyle modifications that help prevent hypertension are:
- Weight reduction and regular aerobic exercise (e.g., jogging) are recommended as the first steps in treating mild to moderate hypertension.
- Reducing dietary sugar intake.
- Reducing sodium (salt) in the diet may be effective: it decreases blood pressure in about 33 percent of people.
- Discontinuing tobacco use and alcohol consumption has been shown to lower blood pressure.
