Aspartame

Aspartame, the artificial sweetener used to make Nutrasweet / Equal and sometimes labeled as phenylalanine in products. Aspartame is composed of two amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine, as the methyl ester.

It is commonly used in diet soft drinks, and is provided as a table condiment in some countries.
