    Hi sri,

the most important step is to get your thyroid hormones to a normal level, for which a regular medication is must. if you are willing to lose weight a proper diet and exercise is important. the basic guidelines remains the same, just that it is important to avoid foods which may worsen the condition. foods like soyabean, brochholi, spinach and fenugreek leaves, cabbage should be avoided.

try to go for walks or any other forms of exercise for atleast one hour every day. it is true that the weight loss pace is slower in hypothyroidism compared to a normal person, but it is not impossible. hard work and efforts can really get you to your ideal weight.

Thanks Payal for the info. I do not eat soyabean and brochholi. But I eat spinach a lot and fenugreek leaves once or twice in a month. I am anaemic too. If I avoid spinach how do I get iron...pls suggest any other foods. How about sweet potato? At times I eat just one boiled sweet potato as breakkfast.

Everyday I go to gym by walk (25mins) and return home by walk(25mins) and do cardiovascular (elliptical cross trainer ) for 30 to 45 mins except weekends and during periods. Weekly thrice (Mon,Wed,Fri) started doing 30 mins strength training like leg press, leg curl, leg extension, hip abduction, hip adduction, hammer strength,...etc. When I do strength trng, I do cardiovascular just for 20 to 30 mins only. I am drinking 4.5 ltrs of water per day and trying to follow 1200 calorie diet. But, by end of the day I am ending up consuming 1500 calories. After returning from gym, I badly feel hungry .So eating 2 or 3 walnuts,3 soaked almonds and 1 cup 2% fat milk without sugar. Now and then I eat 2 or 3 cashew, 1 tsp of roasted peanuts. Pls let me know whether I am going right way or doing something wrong or what needs to be changed (if required).

    Thanks a ton in advance.

    Hi sri,

i would suggest you to avaoid sweet potato for breakfast. If you are anemic and nonvegetarian, consume organ meats in small quantity. and if you are a vegetarian, im afraid you ll have to avoid the green leafy veggies but you can start cooking your food in iron vessels. the best way out is taking iron supplements with your doctors opinion would be best.

your gym workout is good, if you feel hungry after work out, go for some fruits like melons and other citrus fruits, instead of peanuts and cashew, soaked almonds and walnuts are still fine.
