Weight Plateau

How do you break a weight plateau? I tried changing my exercise and diet! But it doesn't seem to help! Tried alternating carb days and protein days/ High intensity training (speed intervals for 30 mins)! Anything else I can do? Will working out twice a day help?

Hi Saunskruti, I was facing the same problem and I made some changes to my diet by taking only a light dinner comprising of Kellogs and Milk with one apple. I also used to run for 25 mins on the treadmill @ 7 -7.5 KM twice a day. I changed that and now am running for 1 hour at an average of 6 KM per hour, I walk for 6 mins and then run for 4 mins, I repeat this set 6 times. I have seen good results. I guess we need to slightly vary our routine once in 15 days as the body gets acustommed to it. I have lost around 13 Kgs in 50 Days with some of the above routine.

Review your diet pattern, don't skip meals or don't do a very low calorie diets. Having low calorie or skipping meals would rather slow down your metabolic rate. Instead have small and frequent meals as it will help you to boost up your metabolism. include cereals like Ragi or barley ata in your diets as they are rich in fiber.

You can workout twice a day to increase your metabolism by working out in the morning on an empty stomach to burn more fat & then working out again in the evening. Change ur exercises atleast every 3 weeks as the body gets use to of same exercises. Along with this make sure you're eating right to loose weight. Eat 5 smaller meals instead of 3 bigger meals plus eat more proteins, fruits & veg in those meals. In this way u'll burn more calories b'coz ur body will spend more time burning more calories by digesting more meals & this will prevent ur metabolism from dropping too much preventing any weight loss plateaus.

I think I am eating right...m eating around 5 meals a day. Breakfast and lunch being the main meals. I eat lots of protein (roasted chicken, egg whites and whey), having things like oats, fruits (apples and mosambi's) and stir fried (olive oil) vegetables (cabbage, carrots, capsicum) Have stopped eating roti, rice and regular sabzis. Dunno what else I can do!

Since you are taking only proteins and vegetables. You can have roti and rice in small amounts. You can add wheat bran, ragi and barley ata in your diet, have brown rice rice instead of regular rice. You can have it in lunch time and have proteins or vegetables at dinner. As this cereals are rich in fiber, thus helps in reducing weight. Moreover, it will be a change in diet pattern and break your plateau point.

hi saunskruti, weight plateau can be broken by introducing interval training in your exercise regime i.e. high intensity for while followed by moderate intensity workout. and repeat same try out this best of luck

Hello Saunskruti, when we talk about exercise 5 thinks are to be taken into consideration mode, intensity, duration, frequency and rate of progression. If you are doing aerobic exercise for 6-8 weeks your body gets adapted and response to particular exercise fades. You need to modify your exercise plan,it can be by changing mode i.e cycling.running, hiking, step aerobics etc. You can also increase you exercise intensity, duration or frequency, depending on what suits you best.
Also remember initially the rate at which you loose weight will not be later.Be consistent with your exercise. You will achieve your goal.
    take care.
