Good question, this one is. You don't need to follow high intensity and high impact exercises as a rule to burn fat and lose weight, and low fat variations can also be followed. Try low impact aerobics, as these have been proven to be effective. Also try hiking or walking, these can keep your heart healthy too. Take a brisk walk early in the morning to increase your heart rate. When you travel between cities, carry a backpack and lose some calories that way. Try cycling - it's fun and easy! You can also try rowing, yoga and swimming and cross country skiing or low impact weight training.
