That really depends on how much fat you have. If you are relatively thin then you might be able to lose fat and even gain some muscle in the tummy by doing regular crunches. This is not a guaranteed solution and differs from person to person. But like me if you have a big fat tummy, then it is much more difficult to lose all that weight and you need to work tirelessly day in, day out to be able to lose some of that fat. Besides you also have to complement your crunches with a proper diet regime as well. Cheers

Ab crunches are not an effective exercise to lose tummy fat. In order to lose tummy fat go for some aerobic exercises like walking, jogging, running, skipping, jogging, swimming etc. Ab crunches will tone and strengthen your abs. Hey Geetanjali...... You need to first reduce down your body fat percentage so as to rip off the fat from tummy. Once fat is at its least level at tummy part, then we can add some resistance training exercise for tummy to tone your tummy muscles and get a desired firm look for your tummy. And ofcourse, avoid all oily, junk foods. This type of exercise plan would help you to reach your goal.
