Is starving yourself a good way to lose weight?

    Starving is severe reduction in food intake aimed to cause energy imbalance leading to weight loss. Starvation can lead to severe nutrition and caloric deficit. Initially one may respond well to starving but not successful in long run. The initial weight loss is largely because of depletion of water and glycogen stores with minimal loss body fat. Often during weight loss through dieting there is a dramatic and sustained reduction in resting metabolism. This is due to loss of body mass or fat free body mass with severe caloric restriction. Therefore there is very little chance of losing weight and recurrence of regaining weight is more with starving.

    Its not advisable to lose weight by starving. As mentioned above, although there will be a weight loss in the initial stage, but later on the weight will stop reducing. At the same time when you are back to your normal diet, your body will react adversely and the rebound tendency is much higher. Instead what you can do to include small and frequent meals throughout the day. Go for a detox diet for day in once in 15 days. These detox diet may comprise of fruits and salad the whole day, or juice diet or soup diet etc.

    starvation is not a very good idea for weight loss.As during starvation BMR or the basal metabolic rate reduces and weight loss slows down
