    Hi Amit,
Running is indeed one of the best cardio activity which helps to burn calories and thus reduce our fat percentage. Running for more than 30 min atleast 5 times a week gives you better results. But we need to also look that we do proper amount of warm up and cool down exercises along with stretching exercises for lower body so as to relax your muscles.

Cardio is not necessary for weight loss. It's 80% diet, and 20% exercise. The only way running works is if you're sprinting.

Cardio is one of the best excercises. It helps in mobilising fat deposited throughout our body. One need not strain oneself by doing cardio for long time. A 30 min workout 5-6 times a week with some bending and stretching excercise, clubbed with a healthy diet will surely result in a healthy weight reduction.

I've done no cardio for the past 3 weeks, and lost 8 pounds. Explain that! All you need is a solid diet, and high intensity training. If you guys want to waste your time doing 3-4 hours of cardio per week, go ahead. Ever seen a difference between a distance runner and a sprinter? Which one would you rather look like? I want to look like a lean, muscular sprinter, not a weak, skinny jogger.

Weight loss is simple mathematics. If calorie loss (due to exercise) is greater than calorie gain (due to food intake) then weight loss is bound to happen. What form of exercise you do is unimportant. Cardio is good for overall fitness but during cardio the body tends to burn glycogen (sugar) . In endurance exercises (jogging) more of fat is burnt. Cardio cannot be done for long periods (hours) unless you want to harm yourself while endurance can be done. Adding weight training to the regime also helps because muscles burn more calories as compared to other tissues. In any case begin slowly and gradually progress. Hope this helps.

I have been cycling for past 3 months (average 900 Km/Month) and my body fat has just disappeared!

I used to run on a treadmill but had huge side effects of pain all over! Cycling has given me new life!

Whatever you do, just be religiously regular...I have seen people shediing off weight by doing brisk walking only...but yes, diet monitoring is equally important and yes, a positive frame of mind too goes a long way in helping you achieve your weight loss target
