i have noticed gained weight while on nutritious food + walking 40 minutes a day + yoga 15 minutes

Dear All,
Need someones help
As this site give some gud motivation to be on balanced diet and it really motivates to do the right things for weight loss.

i have been doing walking and yoga for atleast 1 hour a day ( appx 4 days / week )

I am around 32 and weighs appx 97kg , having an apple shaped body.

As i have inclued more proteins / fibres / citrus fruits in my diet and rigorously following the same

As i was having constipation problem and my schedule as below

Wake up- Overnight soaked triphla in a glass of water and
consumed in morning ( quantity appx 75 ml after boiling and adding a spoonful honey)

Breakfast- Either Kellogs with milk adding sugar free pouches ( quantity in full glass appx 500 gm to make me full )

Other options are- Bread upma full plate
2) Daliya with milk adding sugar free , again 400 gm to satisfy my hunger

3) Besan chillah with less oil with cup of tea , adding sugar free

consuming appx 5 -6 glassses of water in form of soups / green tea / lemon tea without milk

Mid meal- Fruits like Pappaya / watermelon / apple / guava till i am full

Lunch- 3 chapatis + any subzi with gud quantity + water ( sipping from glass ) to quench my thirst

Post meal- Green tea / lemon tea / or sometimes tea with milk

Fruits in evening ( either one or two )

Dineer- 2 chapatis plain + any subzi or dal in gud quantity + 1 chapati masala ( namak wali roti with less oil )

What i have noticed in few weeks , i have increased my intake of alchohol ( appx 3 days in a week )
Consumption- not more than 3 small pegs with soda/ water / beverage mix + some snaks ( hing jeera / peanuts / nut crackers )

As mentioned if i m not able to do walk in morning then i am following yoga at evening for appx 50 min and SKIPPING DINEER and consuming a glass of milk w/out sugar + 2 slices of bread ( either white /brown ) or 1 masala chapati with less oil

Sometimes i binge saunf / supari in a day to get rid of smell occurs from smoke

Now few questions
1) it it possible that u have gained weight because of improper postures using in Yoga

2)I have notived my weight increases appx 2 kg , is it beacuse of alchohol intake ? ( while spending gud time in walking and yoga)

3) Is my diet patter is ok (exluding alchohol)

4) Do i have to go for hypothyrodism test , is it genetic ? my mom being an overweight having slighter hypothyrodism

    hi vijay ,
    1) improper postures during yoga give other major effects on your body .. thn actually increasing your weight .. hence right postures are very important.

    2) yes , the weight gain that you mentioned can be becoz of the
(a)alcohol .. and the snacks that accompany, that u have mentioned are high calorie.
(b)water retention can be a problem .. which can be due to high salt intake or soda.. that u use with alcohol .. or it can be because of your already more than the normal weight status.
(c)though you are doing yoga and walking it is important to follow a correct workout pattern .. i.e. the first 15 min as warm up ,where in the body utilises the ready glucose for energy , the next 15 min is for breakdown of glycogen into glucose for energy, n from the 31st min to 45th min the body breaks fat for energy.. so this period is opf utmost importance .. it is advisable to do a higher intensity exercise in this period so that the fat stores cld be properly broken down. if you are doing yoga in this period ... inspite of all the efoorts , much weight loss will not be seen..

3)about the diet pattern- breakfast .. wheat flakes is a better option to corn flakes .. n brown bread to the white one.

lunch and dinner - phulka is a better option to masala roti ..

please note nicotine in cigarettes interferes with our metabolism .. hence sometimes some ppl lose weight and also sometimes it makes some people gain weight .. depending on person to person .. so if ur intake is high .. that can be another reason.
not to mention abt alcohol !!!

    4) yes hypothyroidism can be genetic .. there is nothing wrong to get a test done for satisfaction .. coz hypo secretion of the thyroid hormones lead to serious weight problems if correct measures are not taken.

    Vijay.....
couple points u need to keep in mind is....
+ find out the fat , muscle and water per centage...
+ just walking and yoga for 15 mnts [keeping 2 factors in mind, u r 30 plus and almost 40 % plus over-weight] will nt really help u to loose weight...
+ add cycling to ur workout....that helps to build endurance and loose fat....
+ working with weights is a must if u r looking at maintaining ur ideal weight...
+ consider the option of running....THE way to reach ur GOAL....
All the very best...let me know what is ur opinion and do u need any further info....!!!

    These are my pratical observations:
In the first month of start of workout , there is absolutey no change in weight. Either it remains constant or there may be some minor wt gain. But as one continues to do exercise your wt starts falling, especially during the 3rd month and 4th month. My routine was 30 to 40 minutes running 4 days/week .

Sometimes I have also measured before and after my jog, and was surprised to find that there was absolutely no change in wt. I was wondering how efficient the human body is. 30 minutes of work done with no no calorie requirement :)
while continuning this routine I was able to reduce my wt by 12 Kgs (74 to 62Kg, height of 5'8", age 36) in 4 months time.
wt continue to remain at that point even if you discontinue workout (may be for 4 to 5 months) dont know how :o .

One more point: No smoking, No Drinking , very ocasional eat outs(2 or 3 time in a month).

Ok one last piece of advise:
"The challenge is not how much or how difficult exercise you are able to do, but how long you are able to continue" so motivation is a must, Fix this factor first.

WOW ok first of all...have you noticed how much SUGAR you are consuming??? Even though fruit is natural it is super high in sugar. On top of all the carbs and alcohol it is no wonder you aren't losing weight!!! In its natural state the body burns sugars, then carbs, then protein, then fat. You would have to walk 50 miles a day to get past all the sugars and carbs just to start burning the protein and fat!!! If you really want to loose weight cut out the sugar and carbs! Get the proper nutrition from veggies and lean protein, as well as HEALTHY fats such as extra virgin olive oil, almonds, etc... Fruits should be treated as a desert and eaten moderately! And don't add in extra sugar! Nature provides more then enough!
