A soft drink is a non-alcoholic beverage with carbonated water (soda), flavored and sweetened with artificial sweeteners. A soft drink contains empty calories which mean they don't have any nutritional value. Many researches has been done to reveal the link between the weight gain and soft drinks intake. Studies have proved that soft drinks contribute to weight gain and obesity. A study suggests that with every bottle of soft drink per day, there are around 50% chances of being overweight. One factor which could be possible to strong the soft drink and weight link up is that the artificial colors and sweeteners present in the soft drinks increases the production of fat storing hormone and increases the sweet cravings. Metabolic syndrome is one of the conditions associated with the soft drink intake. It is a bunch of symptoms like hypertension, high blood sugar, belly fat, high cholesterol levels. Metabolic syndrome is directly related to the type 2 diabetes and many cardiovascular diseases. Other than weight gain and obesity, soft drink also gives an open invitation to the dental problems and demineralization of the bones. The acid and the high sugar level in the soft drinks erode the protective enamel layer from the tooth by sticking on to it, making it more prone to cavities and caries. The acid present in the soft drink decreases the calcium content of the bone which causes the bone weakened, brittle and more prone to fractures. This condition is also known as osteoporosis. If you really wanted to lose weight, stop drinking soft drinks or at least try to cut down its intake.
