calorie is not a nutrient but only a measure of energy present in food. where as fat, protein, carbohydrates are macro nutrients which contain energy in the form of calories . so 1 gram protein gives 4 cals ,2 gram carb gives 4 cal where as 1 gm fat gives 9 cals.
