Diabetic Diet

Dear
I am a diabetic. I am 43 years old.Mine is 75ks weight. I want to reduce my weight. As per BMI scale mine is 10kg excess weight. I am giving my regular fooding details for your understanding. my sugar levels is almost in control (108-130 in fasting)in monthly check ups.

Morning I take a cup of green tea in empty stomock with out sugar, after 10 minits,4 small idly(breakfast); after that i take diabetic tabs. In between breakfast and lunch, i take some biscuits or some fruits if available. I take more water in regurlar intervals. Lunch: less qty of rice more curries and after lunch i take some fruits. evening i take some snacks and green tea or coffee. Dinner: 2 pulkas with curry and fruit. before sleep i take more water.
weekly once non-veg with limited qty.(fish/chicken)I am a non-smoker and non-alcholic.

this is my regular fooding. kindly advise me for my fooding and other activities.

    Following are the tips that will help you to loose weight as well as maintain your sugar levels:-
    1. Try to Avoid rice, refined wheat flour, suji, sugary foods, white bread, veg like potato, arbi, sweet potato, beetroot & fruits like banana, mango, litchi, cheeku, grapes.
    2. Include more of complex carbohydrates like bran, pulses, green leafy veg etc.
    3. Overnight soaked fenugreek seeds early in the morning on an empty stomach helps in reducing sugar levels.
    4. Regular aerobic/ cradiovascular exercises 40-45 min/day 5 days a week should be followed.
    5. try to have small frequent meals
    6. Avoid fasting & feasting

    Thank you very much Rashmi for your response & valuable suggestions. Definitely I do follow your suggestions to reduce my weight. But still I have some doubts like 'honey is substitute for sugar in some instances? One more thing is I very much fond of fruits. Some times, i used to have banana after lunch or dinner. I have become very control over all varieties of foods except fruits. I want to control on avoidable fruits with out having any temptations. Please advice.

    Diabetic & Weight loss - Diet Tips :
    Must Dos
    * Have small regular Meals at least 4 time a day.
    * Consume 8 to 10 glasses of water
    * Eating Fresh Fruits and Vegetables in the form of salads.
    * Substitute white bread with Brown Bread and Maida with Whole Wheat flour.
    * Mix 25% of bran (chokar) and 25% of Soya Flour in your flour to make chapati.
    * Switch to skimmed milk.
    * Minimal Oil, Butter, Cheese usage
    * Have maximum of 2 cups of Coffee or Tea, green tea a day
    * Allowed Vegetables: All vegetables are good expect underground vegetables like potota, sweet potota, yam, tapico.
    * Allowed fruits: Orange, apple with skin, lemon,watermelon,sweetlime,grapefruit,papaya,guava.
    * Have one glass of warm water after every meal.
    * Add melons- Musk melons, Cucumber, Watermelon to your diet
    * Have one glass of Butter milk with ginger after a heavy meal.
    Don’t
    * Avoid Fasting or Feasting. Don’t starve. Don’t overeat.
    * Avoid Late dinners and skipping breakfasts.
    * Avoid Fried Foods and bakery products- Samosa, Burger, Pakoras etc.
    * Avoid Sweets and Confectionery, Sugar consumption .
    * Avoid Fruit juices (like mazaa and slice), Ice creams and Milk Shakes.
    * Avoid eating sour things like Sambhar/Kadhi in the night. Avoid too much of salt in the night. They both cause water retention.
    Non veg – fish , chicken are good but grilled ,steamed,boiled,micro-oven cooking , lean meat –once in 15 days . Egg white –thrice in week.
    Exercise : 45min – 1 hrs ( brisk walk,yoga)
